Town Hall: Community Goals and the Purposes of Membership: Gardens and Arboreta

Rosie Siemer

What goals are arboreta and botanic gardens uniquely positioned to support? How can these cultural organizations develop membership programs that help individuals achieve their goals while also supporting the organization’s mission? Please join us for a preview of our upcoming research project: Community Goals and the Purposes of Membership at Gardens and Arboreta This joint study by FIVESEED and Museums As Progress will shed light on a persistent question we’ve heard in conversations with membership professionals, educators, and administrators from arboreta and gardens throughout the United States: How can we cultivate new audiences by leveraging the expertise we have?  In this town hall, we’ll share an overview of the research project, which will begin with an investigation of the Jobs to Be Done for arboreta and gardens (led by FIVESEED) followed by a progress-space research study of one key goal (led by Museums As Progress).  If you work at an arboretum or botanic garden — especially if your work is related to program development, education, membership, or you are a senior staff member focused on strategic planning — we hope you’ll attend. How to participateAdd this event to your calendar and return to this page on Wednesday, July 12th at 2pm ET. You can join the call live — no registration is required. If you're a MAP Community member, you can RSVP and receive a reminder one hour before the event begins.  To DoIn advance of the session, please read Rosie’s two-part article on Jobs to be Done in museums and Kyle’s introduction to progress-space research: 1. Why consumers “hire” products to help them make progress toward their goals 2. Dimensions of Jobs to Be Done 3. What is Progress-Space Research? These articles will introduce some core concepts and models that inform the methodologies we’ll be using in this research project.
