"At Bookclub, our mission is to innovate the museum experience by providing a platform for everyone to discuss and engage with books that inspire and enrich our cultural understanding." When we started delving into Simon Sinek's "Start With Why" for this season's book club, we figured museum mission statements are their institutional WHYs, right? But can that be a successful motivator if a museum's mission statement–like so many of them–is generic or bland like the one we auto-generated for Bookclub above? Join this session that will take the form of a mini "book club à la MAP" (open reading time followed by discussion) and give us all a chance to unpack what WHY means in our institutions, and the reasons it maybe shouldn't be the driving force Sinek argues for.
