MaP Community Programs

MaP Book Club

In MaP Book Club, we dive deep into the themes to that matter most to museums today.

MaP Community members nominate and vote for books that relate to a seasonal theme. Book Clubbers meet weekly. Each meetup consists of:

  1. 30 minutes of silent reading.

  2. 45 minutes of discussion or exercises related to that week’s reading.

Some people only attend part 2 of the meetup, but many attend the full session because, without that blocked time on their calendars, it’s easy to fall behind. (Many of us are traumatized by years of failed attempts to finish books. Silent reading time is a core part of our treatment plans.)

At the end of the season, we invite the author to join us for a group discussion, either just within the group or as part of the MaP & Tell Conference.

You can see what books we’re voting on here, and here’s a list of books we’ve read so far.

Special thanks to Rosenfeld Media

Book Club participants receive a 20–30% discount on Rosenfeld books. You’ll receive discount info upon joining the group.

About

How MaP Book Club works

I like that there’s space for reading at the beginning. I also like that the group is flexible, particularly because I can't always make a meet-up. It's also nice that people who aren't able to complete the reading for a given week are still welcome to participate.

FAQs

FAQ

Where do I find the list of upcoming events?

The Book Club calendar is hosted on the MaP Community website: https://community.museumprogress.com/c/book-club/

The events page will be locked until you join. Once you start your free trial, you’ll be able to view upcoming events, RSVP, and add events to your calendar.

What if I join after you’ve already started the book?

You can join at any time. Get a copy of the book and catch up. If you’re behind, that’s ok. You can join a session and get a feel for the group.

I started a free trial to attend a Book Club meetup, but my trial expired too soon! Can you help?

Sure. Just email community(at)museumprogress.com, and we’ll extend your trial.

What is the schedule? When does the group meet?

We change the schedule every time we start a new book. This is the best way to ensure we find a day/time that works for most (and usually all) participants. We invite Book Clubbers to share their availability through a scheduling poll at the start of each season and base the schedule on the results.

What if the schedule doesn’t work for me?

Occasionally, we have to pick a day/time that does not work for everyone. During your free trial, you can see if the current schedule works for you.

How do I manage my account? (renewals, cancelations, and payment methods)
